Zendesk MCP
Zendesk MCP: what exists in 2026, and what a scoped key changes
Putting Claude to work on your support tickets now takes one connector. Here is what “Zendesk MCP” actually means as of 12 October 2026, how much of your account each option hands over, and how ReplaTicket limits an assistant to one store and one kind of action.
Three different things are called “Zendesk MCP”
MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is the standard that lets an AI assistant such as Claude use tools in other software. Around Zendesk it means three separate things:
- Zendesk as an MCP client. Zendesk’s own AI agents and Copilot can call other companies’ MCP servers. It was first announced in September 2025 and is generally available according to Zendesk’s September 2026 release notes, on all Suite plans and Support Team and up. It connects to remote servers over OAuth only, and each tool call uses action credits.
- Zendesk’s own MCP server. Announced on 19 May 2026 for “early access this summer”. An OAuth-protected endpoint exists, but Zendesk has published no documentation or tool list for it, and its sign-in offers just two broad scopes, read and write.
- Third-party servers that put Zendesk inside Claude or another assistant. These are what most people mean, and the ones you can set up today.
The third-party Zendesk MCP servers
| Server | How it runs | Sign-in | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| reminia/zendesk-mcp-server | On your computer or in Docker | OAuth per user; API token deprecated | Free, Apache-2.0 |
| Swifteq MCP Server for Zendesk | Hosted by Swifteq | OAuth | Free to 500 calls a month, then €49 a month plus €9 per extra user |
| Zapier MCP and others | Hosted | Varies | Varies |
Read on 12 October 2026 from each project’s own page. The reminia server, the best known, has seven tools: list tickets, read a ticket and its comments, add a comment, create a ticket, update a ticket and fetch an attachment, plus read access to Help Center articles.
The part that matters: how much access the assistant gets
An MCP server can do whatever its credentials allow. With Zendesk that has two forms:
- An API token can, in Zendesk’s own words, be used to impersonate anyone in the account, including admins. It has no scopes. An assistant holding one can do whatever that user can, across every brand and group.
- An OAuth token acts as the person who signed in and can be limited to read, write or specific resources such as tickets. That is better, but an agent who can see every brand still hands every brand to the assistant.
Zendesk is retiring API tokens. Announced 1 June 2026: no new tokens can be created from 27 October 2026, and all remaining tokens stop working on 30 April 2027. If your MCP setup uses one, plan the move to OAuth now.
How ReplaTicket does it
A help desk with its own MCP connector, included in the $299 licence.
A desk key is a ceiling
- Each key belongs to a person and can never do more than they can.
- Limit it to some stores, and to some of six rights: view, reply, note, assign, close, admin.
- A key cannot make another key, so it can never widen itself.
Shown once, revoked at once
- The key is shown once; only a scrambled hash of it is stored.
- Give it an expiry from one day to ten years, or none.
- Revoking it stops it immediately, and both are written to the audit log.
Eight tools
- List stores, search tickets and read a full conversation.
- Add a private note, reply to the customer, or change the status.
- Read saved replies, and pull a report of volume, first reply and promises kept.
Runs on your own computer
- Claude Desktop and Claude Code start the connector locally and talk to it over a pipe.
- Nothing extra is opened to the internet, and your tickets go only to the assistant you run.
- A command-line tool uses the same keys, for scripts and quick checks.
A safe first setup
Make a key that reaches one store and holds only view and note. Claude can then read that store’s tickets and leave private notes with a suggested answer, which a person checks and sends. It cannot email a customer, and the other stores are not there for it at all. When you trust it, make a second key that can also reply.
What the ReplaTicket connector does not do
- It cannot assign tickets, change priority or tags, or create new tickets.
- It does not read Shopify or WooCommerce orders; the order panel is in the desk itself.
- Keys are made through the API, as the guide shows. There is no screen for them in Settings yet.
- The supported assistants are Claude Desktop and Claude Code. A web version is in the source, but we do not promise ChatGPT or Claude on the web until it has been tested with them.
Questions
Does Zendesk have an official MCP server?
Zendesk announced one in May 2026 for early access. As of 12 October 2026 it has no public documentation, so most teams connecting Claude to Zendesk use a third-party server. Separately, Zendesk can act as an MCP client, calling other companies’ MCP servers from its own AI agents and Copilot.
Is it safe to give an AI assistant a Zendesk API token?
An API token can act as anyone in the account, including admins, and has no scopes, so the assistant gets whatever that person can do. OAuth tokens can be limited to read, write or specific resources. Zendesk is also retiring API tokens: no new ones from 27 October 2026, and the rest stop working on 30 April 2027.
What can Claude do with tickets through MCP?
It depends on the server. Typical tools list and search tickets, read a conversation, add a comment or note, and update a ticket. ReplaTicket’s connector has eight tools, including search, reading a ticket, adding a private note, replying, changing status and pulling a report.
Can I limit Claude to one store and private notes only?
In ReplaTicket, yes. You make a desk key for one store with only the view and note rights, and the server refuses anything else. A key can never do more than the person who made it, and it cannot make another key.
Does the ReplaTicket connector work with ChatGPT?
The supported setup is Claude Desktop or Claude Code running the connector on your own computer. A web version exists in the source, but it uses a pasted key rather than the sign-in flow web assistants expect, so we do not promise ChatGPT or Claude on the web yet.
